How to split a PDF
- Drop in the PDF you want to break up.

How page selection works
Each comma-separated entry becomes its own output file, which is the part worth understanding.
Typing 1-3, 5 gives you two PDFs — a three-page one and a one-page one — not a
single four-page file. If you want those four pages together, split them out and then
merge the pieces.
Pages are counted as a reader counts them, starting at 1, so the first page is page 1. Ranges
are inclusive at both ends: 2-4 gives you pages 2, 3 and 4. A backwards range like
7-3 is caught and explained rather than silently reversed, because it usually means
a typo.
Splitting every page
The second mode breaks a document into one file per page — useful for a scanned batch of
separate documents, or a set of certificates that need distributing individually. A 40-page PDF
produces 40 files, delivered as a ZIP with each file named after its page number, so
report.pdf becomes report-page-1.pdf and so on.
Do check the page count first. Splitting a 500-page document produces 500 files and will make a phone struggle; that job belongs on a desktop.
When splitting is the right move
- Sending one chapter of a long report without attaching the whole thing.
- Pulling a single signed page out of a contract.
- Separating a scan that captured several unrelated documents in one pass.
- Cutting a large file down to something that fits an email attachment limit — often more effective than compression, since removing pages removes their data entirely.
- Extracting the pages you actually need before converting to Word, which is faster and gives a cleaner result.
Frequently asked questions
How do I write page ranges?
Separate entries with commas. A single number pulls one page; a hyphen makes a range. 1-3, 5, 8-10 creates three files: pages 1 to 3, page 5 on its own, and pages 8 to 10.
Do I get one file or several?
One entry produces one PDF. Several entries produce several PDFs, bundled into a ZIP so you get them in a single download.
Can I reorder pages while splitting?
Pages keep their original order inside each output file. To reorder, split first and then combine the pieces with Merge PDF in the order you want.
Is quality affected?
No. Pages are copied exactly as they are, not re-rendered, so text stays selectable and images keep their resolution.
What if I enter a page that does not exist?
The tool tells you how many pages the document actually has and leaves your entry for you to correct, rather than silently ignoring it.
