Privacy policy

Last updated August 2026

This policy separates two very different things: the documents you convert, and ordinary website traffic data. They are handled completely differently, and conflating them is how privacy policies end up misleading.

1. Your documents

Every conversion tool on this site runs inside your browser. When you select a file, it is read from your device into your browser's memory and processed there. It is not uploaded, transmitted or copied to any server we or anyone else operates.

This means:

  • We never receive your file, so we cannot read, store, scan, share or sell it.
  • There is no server-side retention period, because there is no server-side copy.
  • We cannot recover a file for you, ever.
  • Converted files stay in the browser tab and are released after 30 minutes, or sooner if you convert something else, remove the file or close the page.
  • Document contents are never written to localStorage or any other persistent browser storage.

You can verify that your document is not uploaded by monitoring network activity during conversion. The converter may still load application code or supporting resources, but your document contents are processed locally. No request carrying your document appears.

Should a future tool ever require server-side processing, that tool's page will say so explicitly and this policy will be updated. No tool currently does.

2. Ordinary website data

Visiting any website means your device makes a request, and that request contains information. We do not have to collect it for it to exist, and claiming we collect "absolutely nothing" would be false.

This site is served through a hosting and content-delivery provider (Cloudflare Pages). Like every web host, it processes standard request data in order to serve pages and protect against attacks and abuse:

  • IP address
  • Browser user-agent string
  • The page requested and the referring page
  • Date, time and approximate region

This is handled by the provider under their own terms, is retained for a limited period for security and operational purposes, and is not used by us to build a profile of you. We do not operate our own account system, so there is no user record to attach it to.

3. Cookies

The site sets no cookies of its own for tracking. Your browser may store a small preference flag if you dismiss a notice; that stays on your device and is not readable by us.

Your hosting provider may set strictly necessary cookies for security purposes. If advertising or analytics is enabled in future, additional cookies would be involved and section 5 applies.

4. Analytics

No analytics is currently active. If it is enabled later, it will be disclosed here before it runs, and in the EEA and UK it will only load after consent.

5. Advertising

No advertising is currently served. The site is built to support advertising later, so that the tools can stay free. If and when that happens:

  • The ad provider will be named here.
  • Providers such as Google may set cookies or similar identifiers to select and measure ads. That is the ad provider processing your data under their own policy, not us receiving it.
  • Visitors in the EEA and UK will be asked for consent through a Google-certified consent platform before any advertising or measurement tag loads.
  • FreeFileTools does not send document contents to advertising providers, and document contents are not used for advertising. File conversion continues to take place locally in your browser.
  • Advertising scripts are third-party code running on the page, in the same way they do on any site that carries advertising. FreeFileTools does not intentionally provide document contents or File objects to advertising providers. File conversion remains local to your browser.

6. Third parties

Currently in the chain:

  • Cloudflare — hosting and content delivery. Processes request data as described above.

Fonts and conversion libraries are served from this site's own domain, not from third-party CDNs, so loading a page does not announce your visit to anyone else.

7. Children

The site is a general-purpose utility and is not directed at children. No accounts exist and no personal details are requested.

8. Your rights

Under the GDPR and similar laws you have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection regarding personal data held about you.

In practice we hold almost nothing to exercise them against: no accounts, no email list, no document copies. Requests concerning server request logs should go to support@example.com, and we will direct them to the relevant provider where the data sits with them. You also have the right to complain to your national data protection authority.

9. Changes

Material changes — particularly enabling advertising or analytics — will be reflected here with an updated date at the top of the page.
