Converting files without uploading them

Most online converters work the same way: you upload a document, a server converts it, and you download the result. It works, but it means handing a copy of your file — a contract, a medical letter, a signed form — to a company you know nothing about, and trusting their retention policy.

The tools here take a different route. Conversion is performed locally using open-source document libraries that run in the browser, so the work happens on your own device and your file is never transmitted. That also has a practical upside: no upload wait on a slow connection, and no file size cap imposed by someone else's server.

The honest trade-off is that browser-based conversion depends on your device's memory and processor, so a long document will take noticeably longer on an older phone than on a laptop. And some jobs — OCR on scanned documents, for instance — are not practical in a browser yet, so we say so rather than returning a file full of nothing.
